Police officials in the Free State are investigating after a video emerged of an officer allegedly refusing to attend to a man seeking assistance. Watch the video below.
It is alleged the attempts of the member of the public to report an incident were dismissed at a police station in Welkom.
In the video, the man is heard questioning the officer - saying he prefers to be assisted in Afrikaans, while the officer gives very little response to the complainant.
The video was originally posted on a community page on Facebook, Police Pics and Clips and has garnered over 40 000 views.
Commenting on the video, social media users have shared their views on the incident.
"Simple respect and understanding from both sides is all that it takes sometimes..." one user says.
"I honestly would have to say that if the man was more polite and said I can only speak afrikaans then the policeman should have searched for someone that can help. No need for arrogance," another Facebook user said.
It is reported Free State police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng says an internal investigation into the incident is underway.
