A man has drowned at a public swimming pool in Northdale, in Pietermaritzburg.
The 28-year-old's body was found by security guards in the early hours of this morning.
It's understood he'd been reported missing yesterday afternoon.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring says paramedics could not save his life as he was declared dead before their arrival.
"ER24 paramedics arrived at the swimming pool to find the SAPS Search and Rescue already in attendance. We assessed the patient and found that he had already been dead for quite some time, nothing more could be done for the patient as he was declared dead," he said.
