KZN ANC elective conference currently underway
Delegates have arrived at the Royal Showgrounds in Pietermaritzburg where the ANC is holding its 8th Provincial Conference.
The event is being held despite several disrupted attempts to hold the party's eThekwini Regional Conference.
A small group of voting delegates arrived singing "Siyeza sisendleleni, " loosely translated, "We are coming, we are on the way" as they expressed their support for Provincial Secretary Sihle Zikalala, who is looking to unseat current Provincial Chairperson Senzo Mchunu for the position.
Mchunu was elected in 2013. Zikalala also has the backing of the province's ANC Youth League.
EThekwini Mayor James Nxumalo, Social Development MEC Weziwe Thusi and Economic Development Mike Mabuyakhulu are amongst some of the other officials who have already made their way past the heavy media contingent that've set up came on the grounds into the hall.
