Yay! Scientists find a way to make milk chocolate a little healthier
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Very soon you will be able to indulge in
your guilty pleasure – chocolate - without a lot of guilt.
Chocolate lovers around the world are rejoicing following news that scientists have found a way to make milk chocolate healthy – well, as healthy as dark chocolate.
North Carolina State University researchers have used peanut skins to create an antioxidant-rich sweet powder which was then mixed with milk chocolate.
The powder is combined with a carbohydrate called maltodextrin, that has a sweet taste.
Why is this good news? Health fanatics and weight watchers prefer dark chocolate over milk chocolate because it is considered the healthier option, and has a lot more antioxidants.
But dark chocolate does not taste as good as milk chocolate, and in fact can be quite bitter.
Scientists are yet to test whether the peanut skins could trigger allergies or not.
But they still have time to perfect the product before the chocolates hit the shelves as the study is only a preliminary one.
It has already been put to the test however, with participants liking the healthier version of milk chocolate as much as the standard one.
We cannot wait for this chocolate treat to go into production!
