Five-inch heels cost woman her leg

A Scottish woman was forced to amputate her
leg after dancing at a Christmas party in five-inch heels.
Like many women, Lorraine Burnett loves wearing high heels. But she had no idea her love for killer heels would cost her a leg.
The 37-year-old told NAME that she danced the night away at a Christmas party in a pair of five-inch heels she had bought just for the occasion.
But the hours she spent on the dancefloor in the uncomfortable shoes led to her developing a blister in her foot.
That’s nothing out of the ordinary for most heel wearers, who know all too well that new shoes that are too tight can cause blisters – which sometimes even cause hyperkeratosis, better known as corns.
But Lorraine’s blister became infected, and despite taking prescribed antibiotics it did not heal.
The blister caused so much pain that she could not walk properly.
Doctors tried removing the contaminated skin, but she continued to endure repeated infections.
Two years after her 2008 Christmas party, doctors told her she would have to amputate her lower leg.
“I’d gone from someone who liked to go out all the time - a real party girl who enjoyed the good life – to pretty completely housebound,” she told the Mirror.
Lorraine told the publication she believed her Type 2 diabetes was behind the infection that ultimately cost her leg.
She hasn’t given up on walking in heels again, but needs to change her current prosthetic to do so.
“A new prosthetic would mean I would look more like a lady again, not having to hide it. I can’t show my leg off and feel like myself. Having another prosthetic would be the most amazing Christmas present. Who knows, I might even be able to wear heels again,” she told theMirror.
